THE graphics cards AMD will no longer be the only ones to benefit from Fluid Motion Frames : all APUs are now affected.
If NVIDIA has taken a big lead in image generation (the famous frame generation of DLSS 3), AMD is trying to provide a response by shifting the “combat” to the pilots’ field.
Indeed, rather than deploying the
FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 with as many studios as possible, AMD intends to integrate image generation technology directly into its drivers with the Fluid Motion Frames.
Fluid Motion Frames and drivers preview
Thus, last September, while two games officially supported FSR 3, AMD increased the number of titles capable of taking advantage of its technologies thanks toAMD Fluid Motion Frames (or AFMF).
Integrated into preview drivers, AFMF made it possible to support twenty additional games without developers having to lift a finger. Unfortunately, we had to make do with “preview” drivers, therefore far from being validated on all fronts. Above all, these drivers were reserved for Radeon RX 7000 cards, which significantly limited their potential.
Very quickly, however, AMD made these preview drivers available on the previous generation Radeon RX, the RX 6000, and the thing is still gaining ground.
Boost AMD-based mini-PCs and consoles
Indeed, AMD has just made available a new version of these almost “magical” drivers. In their version 23.40.01.10, they are no longer limited to the latest Radeon RX 6000 or RX 7000 cards.
As you can see on this page of the official AMD website, these drivers also support Radeon 700M. A graphics solution found on multiple AMD Ryzen processors: you can benefit from it if you have a Ryzen 7040, a Ryzen 8040, a Ryzen 8000G, but also the Ryzen Z1 or Z1 ASUS ROG Ally Extreme.
In fact, many machines – whether we are talking about mini-PCs or portable consoles – will benefit from AFMF to boost their performance. Note, however, that the AFMF is sometimes criticized for its lack of precision and, pilot preview requires, everything will not necessarily work like clockwork for everyone. Still worth testing.
