AMD is not finished with graphics cards RDNA 3: the RX 7900 GRE even seems to offer it the opportunity for a nice counterattack.

While AMD’s high-end cards do not suffer from the same export constraints to China as NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090, a Radeon RX 7900 GRE was still thought of.

As you can see in the table below, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE relies on the same Navi 31 GPU as its big sisters for a fairly similar technical sheet.

If the Radeon RX 7900 XTX remains above the rest, we can see that the objective of offering a “lite” version of the RX 7900 XT should be achieved. We are therefore talking about 5,120 flow processors on the GRE compared to 5,376 for the XT and lowered frequencies: 1,880 MHz base and 2,245 MHz boost compared to 2,000 MHz and 2,400 MHz.

The most “disturbing” decline could be in the video memory. Indeed, AMD seems to have sided with NVIDIA by going from 20 GB on the XT to “only” 16 GB on the GRE. In addition, if we stay on GDDR6, its speed goes from 20 Gbps to 18 Gbps.

Better for less?

We will obviously be keen to verify the impact of these changes on performances which nevertheless look promising. We will be a little late in publishing our test, but AMD seems to believe in the value of its card for having changed its distribution in this way.

It must be said that the public price recommended by AMD is 609.90 euros, an interesting difference with the MSRP practiced by NVIDIA on its GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER (659 euros). A price all the more remarkable since the feedback from the first tests highlights a card that is 5 to 6% faster in rasterization.

Other good news, AMD is taking advantage of this launch to adjust the prices of another model, the RX 7700 XT. That’s a $30 drop from an MSRP of $419 today. We don’t yet have the result in euros, but this could restore interest to a card that was suffering from competition from its sister, the RX 7800 XT, now 80 dollars more expensive.
