You may not know it yet, but the Brickit application could well become a real favorite if your children (and you) enjoy building LEGO. With the help of augmented reality, you will no longer need to wonder what to do with the bricks lying around in your crates and cupboards.

Finding inspiration isn’t always easy when LEGO bricks start piling up around the house. This is why fans of the Danish brand have racked their brains to imagine and develop an app that will undoubtedly help you overcome this problem. Called Brickit, this mobile application, available on both iOS and Android devices, uses augmented reality to help you bring new creations to life using your old bricks.

Brickit: the app that scans your piles of LEGO to make new creations

In reality, Brickit is not really new since the application was launched a little over two years ago. But here’s the thing: it’s a safe bet that many of you have never heard of it before. Are we wrong? A rather unfortunate situation, particularly for LEGO enthusiasts like you, this app having all the necessary arguments to help you bring your abandoned bricks back to life.

As clever as it is, the concept remains relatively simple: the application is responsible for scanning a pile of bricks placed on the ground, identifying each piece in the pile and giving you ideas on what you can build with it.

How to make LEGO with the Brickit app?

To take full advantage of the application, nothing could be simpler. Simply follow the following steps from your iOS/Android tablet or smartphone:

  1. Lay out your bricks and take a photo of them. The app will scan the photo, identify and count the details.
  2. Decide what you want to build. Brickit will then suggest construction ideas based on the bricks available to you.
  3. Bring your creations to life by following “step by step” instructions.
  4. Easily find the brick of your choice. To do this, simply choose a detail from the catalog and the app will highlight it in your stack. The bricks you need in the instructions are highlighted in the steps where you need them.
  5. Once your constructions are finalized, the application offers you the possibility of sharing them with the whole world while discovering those of others.

Obviously, there is no obligation for you to follow these instructions exactly. The objective being only to give you some ideas for your constructions, you are not obliged to stick to them scrupulously. Needless to say, improvisation and creativity always have (and will have) their place when it comes to spending special time with family assembling spaceships and other oddities straight out of your imagination (and that of your toddlers…).
