While a delay could be feared, AMD was reassuring about the release of its first AMD Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 processors.
A new generation of products is preparing at AMD. The Ryzen 7000 processors are particularly awaited by fans, because this launch must mark a significant generation change in technologies. On the sidelines of the presentation of its financial results, the brand was able to unveil its roadmap.
Confirmation of DDR5 and PCI Express 5.0
The first processors planned are those known under the code name “Raphael”. They will use the new Zen 4 architecture and will target desktop PCs. Important novelty for AMD, the management of PCI Express 5 and DDR5 that we have already seen with the 12th generation of Core processors at Intel. We are talking here about AMD processors whose TDP will exceed 65 W.
This generation break will also take place at the motherboard level: AMD Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” processors will require an AM5 motherboard (LGA1718) to operate. The release is scheduled before the end of 2022.
We can already imagine the high-end desktop PCs that will be offered to gamers at the end of the year with a Ryzen 7000 processor and a Radeon RDNA 3 or GeForce RTX 4000 graphics card.
Dragon Range and Phoenix for laptops
For laptops, AMD is planning two different code names to succeed the Rembrandt family. First of all, we have the processorsDragon Rangewhich will target the most efficient laptops, with a thickness greater than 20 mm. AMD promises a TDP over 55W and compatibility with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0. With such a TDP, we can imagine a very high level of performance for what should be marketed under the name AMD Ryzen 7000-H.
This range is not expected before 2023 and could allow AMD to break the record for the number of CPU cores in a mobile processor with 16 physical cores.
The second familyphoenixwill target thinner laptops, under 20 mm, with a TDP between 35 and 45 W. This time, the processors will use LPDDR5 with PCI Express 5.0. Phoenix processors are also slated for early 2023.
