AMD seems to have to pull the rug out from under NVIDIA’s feet with its news graphics cards
entry level.
Since the release of the first cards in RDNA 2 architecture, AMD has mainly focused on mid / high range. However, as for NVIDIA, the beginning of the year 2022 seems to be moving towards “first prices” while waiting for the next generation.
Navi 24 first 6nm GPU
Thus, at AMD, we have already known for several months that the first quarter of 2022 will be the opportunity to discover two otherwise more accessible cards, the Radeon RX 6500XT and Radeon RX 6400.
The two models are designed around the Navi 24 GPU, in an “XT” version for the first card and in an “XL” version for the other. More interesting, our colleagues from Videocardz specify that they should be the first GPUs to be engraved using the 6nm process, TSMC’s famous N6.
Release scheduled for January 19
These two graphics cards are also an opportunity for AMD to introduce a new – purely marketing – way of measuring memory bandwidth, by integrating theInfinity Cache. Obviously, this boosts the value and we obtain 232 Gb / s and 216 Gb / s respectively.
Videocardz estimates true memory bandwidth at 128 GB / s for the Radeon RX 6500XT and 112 GB / s for the Radeon RX 6400 considering that the former is equipped with GDDR6 at 16 Gbps while the latter has to do with GDDR6 at 14 Gbps .
On the consumption side, the Radeon RX 6500XT is at 107 W while the little sister is at 53 W. The latter, in low profile format, will not require a power connector unlike the Radeon RX 6500XT with a 6-pin port.
In all likelihood, AMD should formalize the two cards during its pre-CES conference on January 4 and the availability – all theoretical – seems stuck at January 19.
