Amélie de Montchalin: “There are things that depend on us: inflation compensation, the level of taxes… Everyone sweeps in front of their door”

Amélie de Montchalin was the guest of Laurence Ferrari in La Matinale, on CNEWS, this Thursday. The Minister of Transformation and Public Service defended the government’s record, particularly in terms of purchasing power and the fight against the consequences of inflation.

“The Minister highlighted the efforts that have been made by the State to limit the consequences on French people’s wallets of the increase in fuel and energy prices. She notably recalled the allocation of the inflation allowance, an aid of 100 euros paid to all French people earning less than 2000 euros net per month, to cope with the increase in the cost of living.

She also recalled the decisions taken by the government concerning energy prices, with the “tariff shield”, which allowed the freezing of gas prices, and the capping at 4% of the increase in the price of electricity this winter.

Amélie de Montchalin, however, insisted on underlining the responsibilities of other political actors regarding purchasing power. “There are things that do not depend on us. : the price of a barrel of oil at the international level, and also a share of fuel tax which depends on the region. I observe that there are regions which have not taken a decision to lower this share which is theirs, ”she said.

Citing in particular the Île-de-France region, and implicitly, its president, Valérie Pécresse, LR presidential candidate, the Minister of the Public Service mentioned a certain number of regions where fuel was more expensive than elsewhere. A higher price which results, according to her, from the TICPE, a tax on energy products, part of which is allocated to the budget of the regions.

“Let everyone sweep in front of their door. There are things that depend on everyone, everyone acts, and there are things that depend on the outside, ”she said.
