American writer Joan Didion has died at 87


American writer Joan Didion, to whom we owe in particular “The Year of Magical Thinking”, has died at the age of 87.

For this essay, in which she looks back on her terrible year 2003 which saw her husband die of a heart attack and her daughter fall into a coma (she later died during the promotion of the book), she received the National Book Award and the Medicis Essay Prize.

The one who was a long time journalist, and to whom we also owe several screenplays for the cinema (Panic in Needle Park, A star is born …), died at home, in Manhattan, as a result of Parkinson’s disease, reported The New York Times, where she worked.
