Seven years after the release of “Joy”, David O. Russell is back in the cinema. In the past and with a huge cast, carried by Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington, who we discover in action in the trailer for “Amsterdam”.
From Fighter to Joy, via Happiness Therapy or American Bluff, David O. Russell had accustomed us to impressive castings. But not as much as that of Amsterdam, his next opus, which the trailer devotes more than ten seconds to presenting in images.
Already starring in American Hustle and Fighter, which won him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2011, Christian Bale is reuniting with the filmmaker for the third time, while Robert De Niro is playing for the fourth time in front of his camera. But the rest of the cast is made up of newcomers, whether it’s Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Taylor Swift, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana or Mike Myers.
While Barbie and Oppenheimer will fight it out next summer, Amsterdam can clearly apply for the title of the most beautiful cast of 2022. And the furious trailer, punctuated by the song “I’d Love to Change the World” of Ten Years Afteris more than promising, while this thriller plays the card of mystery and does not tell us much about the plot.
No more than the official synopsis, which evokes “the story of three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most secret and shocking plots in American history”while the trailer claims that “almost everything is true”. In view of the images, shenanigans and conspiracies will be on the program of the festivities, with a mixture of darkness and humor of which David O. Russell is customary. But a little more in the past than American Bluff or Joy.
Amsterdam will be released in theaters on November 2. After a stint at the Venice Film Festival, at the start of the school year, where does he have everything to make a beautiful opening film?
