an unexpected new free game is coming, it will divide

A certain company well known to gamers is reportedly working on a new version of Elden Ring that we weren’t expecting. But then, really not.

Elden Ring is one of From Software’s latest products, and an unforgettable gem. Who was not marked by this adventure plunging us into a merciless universe, but whose beauty resonated deep within us. And interspersed with our screams of rage after restarting a boss for the twentieth time, but that’s another story. Regardless, it goes without saying that this was an important game in the gaming landscape. To the point of winning the title of GOTY 2022 (Game of the Year). So obviously, we’re going to continue to hear about it, and not just for its DLC. We have just learned that he was perhaps going to be entitled to a new, somewhat special version.

Elden Ring on mobile? And it does not stop there

Please note, for the moment, this is just a rumor, but it still seems quite credible. We have just been told that the company Tencent Holdings is in the process of adapting Elden Ring to mobile phones. The information was given to us directly by three people close to the matter, hence the fact that it is potentially true. The idea would be to refresh the stock of games which are starting to look a little old. Such a proposal would also attract a new audience; in short, it is a project that seems to be well thought out.

We know that Tencent has the means to implement such a substantial project. He also obtained the rights to the title from From Software in 2022 (in addition to having acquired 16.25% of the studio’s shares), which reinforces this new rumor. From what we have heard, the company has dispatched a dozen people to take care of the prototype of this Elden Ring on mobiles. On the other hand, development would be a little slow, and at the same time, it must not be an easy task to put this plan into action. However, there is a big particularity that we have not yet highlighted.

Indeed, the Chinese giant seems to want to make this game… free-to-play. Free, if you prefer. Of course, there would be microtransactions to make it a profitable production, but in reality, we could access them without putting our hands in the wallet. A bit like Genshin Impact, to name but one. So yes, when we look at Elden Ring, it’s difficult to see how this concept will apply. For the moment, we can’t really comment, because we haven’t seen the color. A trailer would allow us to get a more precise idea of the title. To be continued.

Tencent returns after a canceled project

At the time of writing, Tencent and From Software (behind Elden Ring) have not agreed to answer questions on this subject. Likewise, the sources preferred not to be named because they do not have permission to speak to the media. But then, is it true? Well, that wouldn’t be without logic. This would not be the company’s first attempt. In the past, she had a project on fire based on the Nier franchise. A major mobile adaptation, which was nipped in the bud due to monetization problems.

In addition, we have the impression that Tencent is looking to have a big hit, like PUBG Mobile which continues to bring in regular revenue. We suspect that the company is not close to bankruptcy, but its president nevertheless specified that the gaming branch was “threatened”. We’ll see if we end up hearing about Elden Ring on mobile. In any case, we are curious.
