And hop, already 67% increase for the Twitter Blue subscription

Twitter Blue was to remain a very low cost service. Except that, already criticized for its content, the subscription to Twitter Premium will undergo a price increase of 67%…

Twitter Blue, Twitter’s subscription service, sees its price increase just a few months after its launch. Instead of the monthly $2.99, you will now have to spend $4.99 to subscribe. This price increase is general and will also apply outside the United States, wherever Twitter Blue is offered. This is particularly the case in Australia, Canada or New Zealand. Users who are already subscribers will benefit from a few months of respite but will have to pay the new price from October. All have, logically, been informed of the change by e-mail.

A Twitter Premium that doesn’t seem to take

As a reminder, Twitter Blue gives access to Premium features on Twitter, such as the possibility of correcting a tweet for a certain period of time, displaying personalized icons, taking advantage of a more sophisticated navigation bar, reading press articles without advertising within from a network of partner sites or even use an NFT as a profile picture. Those who already criticized the approach by believing that the features reserved for Twitter Blue did not justify the asking price will no doubt end up being cooled by this increase.

“At launch, we were very keen to keep the cost of subscription as low as possible, while testing, learning, and gathering feedback. Since then, we’ve refined the vision for this product, conducted significant researches, introduces new improvements and more are in development”, says a Twitter spokesperson. Before adding: “This change allows us to continue developing some of the features you’ve requested, improve the ones you already love, and continue our mission to support journalism.”

We still don’t know how many Twitter users have convinced Blue so far. The company’s latest quarterly results make no mention of it. According to some specialized firms, Snapchat+, launched at the end of June, has already largely exceeded Twitter Blue in popularity. We also don’t know if and when Twitter plans to expand this subscription service to new markets.
