John Corbett is set to reprise his role as the iconic Aidan Shaw in season 2 of “And Just Like That…”, the sequel to the cult series “Sex and the City”.
Good news for Sex and the City fans! According to exclusive information from DeadlineJohn Corbett, who played Aiden Shaw, will find his ex-fiancée Carrie Bradshaw in season 2 of And Just Like That… The actor should be present for an arc of several episodes. For now, HBO Max, which offers the series in the United States, has declined to comment.
Introduced in season 3 of Sex and the City, the character of Aidan Shaw quickly became one of the favorite characters of fans of the series, who had also been disappointed that he did not make his big comeback in And Just Like That…
Viewers had been watching him all season in hopes of an appearance, with the actor teasing to Page Six in April 2021 that he would be “in some episodes”. That turned out to be a lie, as the writers never considered bringing him back.
A joke that had a lot of fun at the time Sarah Jessica Parker, also producer of the series. “It was very funny that he said that“, she said in Watch What Happens Live last February. “When he contacted me, because he is a real gentleman, to apologize for his joke, I answered him “No, no, no, we are in a free country”. Following the broadcast of the final episode last February, producer Michael Patrick King explained to Deadline the reasons for Aidan’s absence in season 1 of And Just Like That… which dealt with the consequences of the death of the husband of Carrie, Mr Big (Chris Noth), at the very end of the first episode.
“I really felt like it was a lot for Carrie“, he had declared. “This season was a lot. We wanted to take her through [la mort de Big] and bring it into the light. [Le retour d’Aidan] is a plot we never planned to write.“
We must therefore believe that the technique of John Corbett worked since he will resume his role in season 2, the shooting of which should begin very soon.
John Corbett played Carrie’s boyfriend, then fiancé, in seasons 3 and 4 of Sex and the City. They broke up twice: the first time after the young woman confessed to having slept with Big, and the second time following Carrie’s inability to really commit to their relationship after their engagement. They reconciled in season 6 after crossing paths on the street. Aidan had then revealed to him to be married and the father of a little boy.
Fate had brought them together once again in the film Sex years the City 2 in Abu Dhabi, where they exchanged a passionate kiss while they were both married (and Aidan was also the father of three children). It remains to be seen how the writers will justify this long-awaited return.
