Kim Cattrall reprises her role as Samantha Jones in the season finale of the spin-off And Just Like That…
Fans had almost given up hope Kim Cattrall (66) to be seen again in her “Sex and the City” cult role. But in the season finale of the spin-off “And Just Like That…” (on Sky and the streaming service Wow), Samantha Jones was reunited as announced – albeit a very short one.
New life in London
In the spin-off’s first season, Cattrall’s character was only present through text messages she exchanged with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker, 58). Samantha has since made a new life for herself in London, cutting ties with both Carrie and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon, 57) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis, 58).
In the current episode, Samantha is on the phone with Carrie in a car. She was actually going to New York to be at Carrie’s last dinner at her old apartment. But the flight is delayed and Samantha says goodbye to Carrie’s legendary apartment on the phone. “Thank you for everything. You damn fabulous, fabulous apartment,” she says into the phone.
The guest appearance lasts just 71 seconds. Miranda actress Nixon had previously warned fans not to expect too much from the comeback. “It’s going to be a very short, very small cameo,” she announced at the beginning of July.
No joint shoot
Cattrall ruled out a joint shoot with her former colleagues in advance. According to media reports, she did not want to meet her co-stars or showrunner Michael Patrick King (68).
Apparently, Cattrall’s brief appearance was only possible because she was asked by the highest authority. In the US program “Today” the actress toldthat it’s a special experience “when the head of HBO calls you and asks: ‘How can I make this possible?'”. Cattrall should have fun with it, feel good about it – and that’s how all their requirements for an appearance were met.
The shoot took about four hours. It felt like she could “dip her toe into the past for a wonderful afternoon.” However, when asked if she wanted to delve further into it, she said sternly, “That’s as far as I’ll go.”
Broken relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker
The 66-year-old has made it clear several times in recent years that she has finished with the series and her character after the second movie. Her broken relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker made headlines in particular. Among other things, Cattrall accused Parker of behaving badly towards her during the filming of “Sex and the City” and that the two were never really friends.
Based on these and other statements, it “didn’t even occur to the creators of the spin-off” to ask Cattrall to be part of the sequel, Parker explained in a podcast last year. Cattrall first found out about the spin-off through social media, as she later explained.
It is highly doubtful that Cattrall will return for the third season that has just been decided. Cattrall played Samantha Jones in the US hit series “Sex and the City” from 1998 to 2004. This was followed by the two movies “Sex and the City” (2008) and “Sex and the City 2” (2010).
