Andie MacDowel reveals why she stopped coloring her gray hair

Returning to this decision which changed her appearance, the actress recalls: “My older sister has had white hair for a long time and it made me jealous. I think it’s so beautiful…” . Always seduced by their look, Andie MacDowel also confides that she thought of her parents, and more precisely of her father, whom she found “so sexy with her salt and pepper hair”.

Assuming her two-tone hair was therefore an idea that had been in her head for a long time when she said to herself “why not me ?”. If she did not have the chance to see her mother grow old, whom she lost when she was 23 years old, she regrets not having seen her grow old. “I always wondered what she would have looked like” explains the actress, who had to do without this model.

“I decided not to be ashamed”

The one who defines herself as a woman “who assumes and who assumes himself”, however, did not take the plunge immediately, encouraged by her managers to continue coloring for the sake of her acting career. In a world where big roles for women over 50 are rare, this pressure has taken its toll on the star. But the pandemic period that we knew was a click for Andie MacDowell: “The Covid arrived and, during confinement, it seemed obvious to me”. Ignoring prejudice, the star then “knowingly decided” not to dye your hair and to accept it as it is.

“I refuse to be considered a diminished woman, weakened because of my age” she says to explain her decision, recalling the disparities between men and women in the world of cinema. “The men assume them well, them”, she adds.
