Andreessen Horowitz launches a fund of 600 million dollars to bring out the future nuggets of video games


BRIEF // Andreessen Horowitz will allocate an envelope of 600 million dollars to invest in start-ups in the world of video games, mainly studios, services dedicated to players and infrastructure technologies.

Andreessen Horowitz is stepping up a gear in the video game industry. The famous North American fund, alias a16z, has indeed announced the creation of a new investment vehicle of 600 million dollars dedicated to promising start-ups in the sector, mainly studios, services for gamers (such as Discord, Twitch…) and infrastructure technologies.

Called Games Fund One, this new fund has received financial support from several founders or business leaders in the sector, such as Roblox, Discord, Twitch, Riot Games, Blizzard, Zynga, Sky Davis and King. It is part of Andreessen Horowitz’s strategy to anticipate the next digital revolutions, such as Web3 and the metaverse. At the start of the year, the US fund announced that it wanted to raise $4.5 billion to supply a fund exclusively dedicated to start-ups specializing in cryptocurrencies.
