Android 12: the turn of Asus ZenFone 8 to be entitled

Asus has embarked on the deployment of the new version of Android on some of these terminals, namely the ZenFone 8 series. Users can download it directly now.

The wave of updates to Android 12 continues. It’s Asus’ turn to tackle this deployment – which is anything but flawless. A few months ago, Asus announced that the ZenFone 8 series would benefit from the update in December 2021. The deployment therefore arrives just in time to not make the manufacturer lie.

The news was announced via a post on the official Asus forum. The brand has even made available a direct download link (which links to the model’s product support page) to the update for the more impatient who do not want to wait for it to be offered on their phone.

For ZenFone 8, this is version 31.1004.0404.73, and for ZenFone 8 Flip, version 31.1004.0404.61.

Android 12 changes on the ZenFone 8

The release note published by Asus details the various changes brought about by this new version:

  • Mobile manager apps, contacts, phone, file manager, calculator, clock, gallery, weather, logger, settings, data transfer, local backup, setup wizard, redesigned system update
  • Quick settings panel, notification bar and volume bar adjusted to Android 12 design
  • Added privacy dashboard, camera and microphone metrics, clipboard access, approximate location access, and microphone access features
  • ASUS Safeguard replaced by Android 12 Emergency SOS
  • Introduction of a new widget management page. Adjusted the position of the screenshot option and removed the app icons from the dock in the recent apps overview page
  • Removed Quick Settings layout option from Display Settings
  • ASUS has removed support for SIP calls because Android 12 does not natively support SIP calls
  • Some third-party apps are not yet compatible with Android 12

The ZenFone 8 and 8 Flip should all see this update made available in the coming days. Both devices run on Asus’ ZenUI interface, which looks a lot like that of the Google Pixels. Asus’ interpretation of Android 12 should therefore logically remain fairly faithful to the original.

The next Asus smartphones to be able to obtain the update to Android 12 will then be the ROG Phone 5 and 5s, the ROG Phone 3 and the ZenFone 7. The last two will receive it during the first half of 2022. The ROG Phone 5 and 5s , meanwhile, will see it arrive in the first quarter of the coming year.
