Android 13 would allow you to choose the language per application, but what for?

Google is reportedly working on a new app-by-app language setting option, which will be offered in the upcoming Android 13.

The Android 12 update has only been rolling out a few months, and already, some clues about the upcoming features of Android 13 are starting to emerge.

Even more customization with Android 13

According to a report byAndroid Police, a new feature known by the code name “Panlingual” is reportedly under development at Google. This would allow the user to define a specific language for each application, and not for the entire system. An anonymous source also said that this language customization option could prove very useful for multilinguals.

Developed for the upcoming Android 13 update, this new option would appear next to “Language & input”, already present in the device settings. However, it would also be possible to access this functionality directly via the information screen of each application.

With this option, a user could use French as the system language and another language for Android applications, without having to change internal settings.

An update still being considered

It is important to clarify that this language setting option is in the early stages of its development. Its final rendering could therefore be interpreted differently. Not to mention that Google Maps already allows users to change the internal language of the settings, even if most applications depend on the system language settings.

However, if Android 13 incorporates this language customization option, it would be of great help to users. For example, document editing on MS Word could be done in one language, and browsing on Twitter in another.

Android 13 promises to be full of surprises and new features. But, before getting carried away, you should know that it is still being considered. The release of this next update will likely be several months away. So nothing is certain about the new application-by-application language setting functionality.
