Every year, Google organizes a major conference dedicated to developers, the Google I/O, during which software and hardware announcements are usually made. The 2023 edition, organized on May 10, is particularly awaited in view of the major new features anticipated.

For the occasion, Frandroid will even go there to follow this great mass live. So what to expect? Inevitably, Android 14 will have a place of choice, just like the Google Pixel 7a. But above all, the many rumors suggest that a very first Google Pixel Fold will be introduced.

This article aims to scan all the new products to which we should be entitled, but also to the products which have little chance of being revealed.

Expected announcements

Android 14

Like every year, the new version of Android is the star of the Google I/O. The 2023 vintage rhymes here with Android 14, the first beta of which was already deployed in April. Undoubtedly, the Californian event should give pride of place to beta number 2, while the stable version is expected at the end of the summer, or even in September.

This year, Android 14 will seek to strengthen the security of your photos and videos thanks to better controlled access to your gallery on your part, towards third-party applications. Better compatibility with hard drives, Fast Pair menu, regional preferences, more easily readable screen time: the new features already leaked are numerous.

The Mountain View company should present other new features whose secret has been well kept. All this will allow you to get a more than concrete idea of Android 14.

Generative AI

Since the beginning of 2023, generative artificial intelligence has been on the lips of all multinationals and all the media. The explosion of ChatGPT has given a meteoric boost to the sector, which enjoys colossal investments. Microsoft, for example, invested $10 billion to integrate GPT into its services.

For its part, Google has also been on a war footing for several months, fearing a major technological paradigm shift that could threaten or upset its business. We therefore expect a demonstration of force in this area, via significant advances or new integrations of AI into its tools.

The American giant obviously did not wait for Google I/O to show what it was capable of. Generative AI functions implemented in its Workspace applications are already available. Public testing in Gmail and Docs is also taking place. In short, AI should be in the spotlight.

Google Pixel 7a

It’s no secret that the Google Pixel 7a will obviously be formalized in due form. As a reminder, this phone family aims to make the right concessions in the right places, while maintaining a controlled experience at a more affordable price than the Vanilla and Pro versions.

We no longer really count the leaks around the Pixel 7a. At the time of writing these lines, all the alleged characteristics are already known: Oled screen, 6.1 inches, 90 Hz, dual rear sensor, Tensor G2, Android 13 or even 5 W wireless charging. In short, it there should be little or no surprise.

As for its price, the inflationary context necessarily raises fears of a price increase. An increase of 50 dollars is anticipated, which would logically increase its amount in France. As a reminder, the Pixel 6a was sold for 460 euros when it was launched in France. The Pixel 7a could tickle the symbolic bar of 500 euros.

Pixel Fold

It would be a historic announcement. Google could indeed present the very first foldable smartphone in its history, known as the Pixel Fold. Marrying a book format, this model would directly compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Oppo’s Find N2, which is however not available in France.

The Google Pixel Fold should normally favor a square format, somewhat in the same style as the Oppo Find N. On the other hand, almost no information has filtered as to the nature of its processor and its photo sensors. The phone screens are also well kept secret.

The price of the Pixel Fold is at the heart of rumors and other rumors. Several amounts thus circulated: 1400 dollars on one side, 1800 dollars on the other. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s going to be a salty, elite-priced ultra-premium phone. Its release could also occur very quickly after its announcement.

Pixel Tablet

Google’s Pixel Tablet had already been teased in October 2022, during the Made by Google conference. This device should act as a Google Smart Display thanks to the dock included as standard, which can charge the product and stream music. The idea is to make it a mobile and practical tablet for your home.

Among the few known features are the presence of a Tensor G2 chip, Android 13, 8 GB of RAM, two storage options and a small button dedicated to privacy – it will mute the microphone and the camera. In total, four colors should be on the program.

Know now when the Pixel Tablet will be released: June is expected, about a month after Google I/O 2023. The price is still a big mystery. We can nevertheless expect a price range oscillating around 600 euros.

Bluetooth beacon

The chances of Google presenting its very first Bluetooth beacon are not 100% certain, but several recently discovered clusters of clues suggest it anyway. Its tracker’s codename – grogu – has even been discovered, and its recent Bluetooth beacon alliance with Apple is a strong sign.

The two giants have indeed announced that they are working on an industrial specification, which will make it possible to block unauthorized Bluetooth tracking devices, such as any AirTags type tracer, on iOS and Android platforms. A partnership that leaves little room for doubt as to Google’s intentions.

Unexpected products

Google Pixel Watch 2

Clearly do not expect a second generation of connected watch signed Google. The first Pixel Watch of the name is far too young – launching in October 2022 – to make way for a successor. In addition, no serious and credible leaks about a new model have appeared on the Web.

Google is also tending to improve its current model, with the recent addition of fall detection in particular. In short, the time is clearly not for the Pixel Watch 2. To be seen, however, if the company will slip a small teasing during the event, even if the chances seem slim.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

Again, there’s not much reason to believe in Pixel Buds Pro 2. Admittedly, the first generation was indeed introduced at Google I/O 2022, but there’s no reason to believe that a second generation arrives at the 2023 edition.

As a reminder, the Pixel Buds Pro were the first wireless headphones from Google to benefit from active noise reduction. This test has been transformed by the Californian firm, which has been able to design a product that is durable, practical (Bluetooth multipoint), comfortable and capable of restoring the bass well.
