Android: Google Photos will soon integrate a function to save storage space

The Google Photos application on Android could soon offer you the option to compress your photos and videos to save storage space.

If you use Google Photos to store your photos and videos in the cloud, you know that the question of storage space can quickly become problematic. The platform in fact offers 15 GB of space for free, which is quickly reached if you use your camera regularly. A function to help you free up space without deleting your productions could soon be arriving.

Compress your files to save space

By analyzing the code of the latest Android version of Google Photos, the publication Android Authority, who specializes in exercise, has discovered some interesting information. There is mention of an option, not yet deployed, to lower the quality of photos and videos saved on the platform in order to save space.

Such a feature is already offered by the web version of Google Photos, but has never been available on the mobile application. If it works the same way, it will not be possible to restore files to their original quality, and compression can only be performed once a day.

15 GB of storage is no longer enough

Recent smartphones are capable of capturing very good quality photos and videos, but the size of such files has exploded in recent years. To stay within the 15 GB storage limit, many users have to delete files or transfer them elsewhere.

Another option is to agree to checkout. The Google One subscription allows you to increase the maximum storage volume to 100 GB (19.99 euros per year), 200 GB (29.99 euros per year), 2 TB (99.99 euros per year) or 5 TB (249.99 euros annually).
