Google is preparing to deploy the “Find my remote” functionality on more devices, to make it easier to find a lost remote control. This function could be installed more widely on our Android TV and Google TV through their next major software update: Android TV 14.
Complaining about losing the TV remote has happened to all of us. To find it quickly, Google is relying on a functionality which allows you to locate said zappette thanks to its Android TV system. This function, called “Find my remote”, should soon make its way to more devices, to support a larger number of users. In any case, this is what we discover Android Authority in Android TV 14, expected soon on Google TV and Android TV devices.
In the latest beta of this new version, mentioned last week during the Google I/O conference, the specialized site discovered an explicit reference to “Find my remote”, suggesting that this function will soon arrive on more Google devices TV.
“When Find my remote is enabled, you can play a sound to locate your Google TV remote if it’s misplaced”, we read. “You can press a button on your Google TV to play a sound on your remote for 30 seconds. This feature only works with supported Google TV remotes. To stop the sound, press any button on your remote“.
A material prerequisite remains relevant…
Note that not all devices will be eligible for this feature. It will indeed be necessary that your remote control is compatible and that it has a small speaker, in all likelihood, to emit the sound mentioned above by Google, but also that your streaming device is eligible for future updates of Android TV.
That being said, it’s reasonable to assume that all Google TV and Android TV devices released after the widespread rollout of Android 14 will have this feature and the appropriate hardware. Some manufacturers also seem to have negotiated with Google to integrate this functionality in advance, including on hardware with an older version of Android TV.
