Android users need to act: Popular app blocks emergency calls – here’s how to fix it

Currently, an app can block emergency calls on Android smartphones. To fix this bug, users need to take action. Here you can find out who is affected and how you can solve the problem in brief.

Microsoft Teams has become an integral part of everyday work for many people who switched to the home office due to the pandemic. However, the app is currently giving Android users a headache. As several users report (via “9to5Google”), the app is supposed to block outgoing emergency calls. If the worst comes to the worst, it may not be possible to start a call from the cell phone.

The problem only occurs if users have installed the app on their smartphone but are not logged into teams. Fortunately, Microsoft quickly addressed the problem. Users who still have an old version of Teams on their Android smartphone should urgently update via the Google Play Store. The problem disappears with the “1416 / 1.0.0.2021194504” version from Teams.

The fix for the problem is initially intended to remedy the situation. However, according to Google, there is a fundamental problem in the system data of Android that would have led to this in the first place. The developers behind the smartphone operating system are already working on an all-encompassing solution. This should appear with the security patch in January 2022 if everything goes smoothly.

Then there shouldn’t be any other apps in the future that accidentally block emergency calls via Android smartphones. The developers currently expect the patch to be released on January 4, 2022. If anything should change, you will find out here first.
