Still determined that a position of Defender of Animal Rights be created, the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) has once again challenged the presidential candidates, this time through a film.
The creation of such a position, based on an idea by Robert Badinter, would represent “a real turning point in the perception of animals in society”, said the SPA in a press release.
This role of Defender of Animal Rights would be modeled on that of the Defender of Rights. Acting as an independent authority, he would mainly have three tasks to perform. Initially, to return to the State the driving role which “must be its in terms of animal protection”, by drawing up an inventory.
This Defender of Rights will also propose legislative and regulatory advances and will have the power to “mobilize the judicial and administrative authorities in any matter relating to his office.
A series of precise measurements
In addition to this request, the SPA unveiled in video the list of important measures that must be taken to advance the cause of animal welfare.
“The abolition of bullfighting”, the “condemnation of all forms of animal abuse”, or even the “end of the animal-object and the sale of all pets in pet stores”, are among the major missions to accomplish for the future President of the Republic.
