This casting remains an unpleasant memory for Anne Hathaway – even 20 years later. She had to kiss several men at once.
Anne Hathaway (41) remembers an unpleasant casting experience. In the 2000s, the actress had to kiss several men for a project. The aim was to test which actor had the best chemistry. “I was told, ‘Ten men are coming today and you’re in. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited,” the Oscar winner said the fashion magazine “V Magazine”.
“I thought it sounded gross,” Hathaway elaborated. However, in order not to draw negative attention to herself, she accepted the task. “I was so young and I was very aware of how easy it is to lose everything if you’re labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended to be upset and carried on,” she explained. The “Interstellar” star did not reveal which film project the audition was for.
“It was just a completely different time”
However, Anne Hathaway describes her experience around 20 years ago as “normal”. “It wasn’t a power play, nobody wanted to do anything bad to me or hurt me. It was just a completely different time, and today we know better,” she emphasized. For her own projects as a producer, she now uses different tactics to test the actors’ interaction.
The American celebrated her breakthrough in 2001 with her leading role in the “Suddenly Princess” series. Numerous other leading roles followed, including in “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Interstellar”. She received an Oscar in 2013 for her role in the film musical “Les Misérables”. In 2011, Hathaway made her debut as a producer. Her latest film “The Idea of You” will be released on Prime Video on May 2nd.
