Anne Rice is dead. The US writer died of a stroke at the age of 80.

US writer Anne Rice is dead. Her son Christopher Rice announced this via Twitter and Facebook. The author of numerous bestsellers died of a stroke in the early evening hours of December 11th. She was surrounded by her family at the bedside. According to her son, he “sat next to her hospital bed in awe of her achievements and her courage.” Anne Rice was 80 years old.

Rice is slated to be buried at a private ceremony in the family mausoleum in New Orleans. Her son did not mention an appointment. However, he announced that there would be a public celebration in memory of his mother in the coming year.

Worldwide success with “Interview with a Vampire”

Anne Rice was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1941 and made her debut novel in 1976 with “Interview with a Vampire”, which became an international bestseller. The novel was filmed in 1994 with Tom Cruise (59) and Brad Pitt (57). Rice based her “Chronicle of the Vampires”, which comprises twelve volumes, on the successful first novel. In 2018 Anne Rice published a 13th volume of the vampire saga, “Blood Communication”. The novel was also her last published work.
