Antibes: an apartment in a residence for seniors ravaged by a fire


No less than 20 machines and 43 firefighters were mobilized to overcome the blaze which seriously injured a 90-year-old woman. An investigation has been opened and will have to determine the causes of the fire, which remain unknown at this stage.

A residential fire broke out Thursday at the end of the day in an apartment in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), learned THE Figaro with the firefighters. The firefighters were called around 6:30 p.m. for a fire on the 3rd floor of a six-storey seniors’ residence, on Chemin des Âmes-du-Purgatoire.

No less than 20 machines and 43 firefighters were mobilized to overcome the blaze. The incident was extinguished in the early evening, around 9:15 p.m. The firefighters specify that the fumes have “impacted higher levels”.

Three residents were seriously injured, including a 90-year-old woman. The latter was taken care of and transported urgently to the Pasteur hospital in Nice. A man and a woman, respectively aged 86 and 76, were hospitalized at the Fontonne hospital in Antibes. “23 people involved and uninjured were evacuated and directed to the victim assembly point. 4 of them will be relocated by the operator. The others can go back to their apartments.specifies the SDIS.

A round was to take place this Friday morning to ensure that no hot spot remained in the building, although the evening before, no more smoke was observed when the firefighters left. An investigation has been opened and will have to determine the causes of the fire, which remain unknown at this stage.
