Powered by PCI Express 5.0, the next generation of NVMe-SSD promises speeds almost twice as high as the previous one.
Almost eight months ago, the Alder Lake platform, and its support for PCI Express, was launched by Intel. However, there is still no graphics card or SSD that uses this technology yet… but things are moving on the storage side.
13 GB/s sequential read
Indeed, one after the other, Apacer and Zadak took advantage of Computex 2022 to unveil the first NVMe SSDs to the new standard. For Apacer, it is the AS2280F5 M.2 PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD when Zadak announces the TWSG5 Gen5 x4 SSD.
The advanced specifications are very close, with a PCIe Gen 5 x4 interface and speeds of 13 GB/s in sequential read for 12 GB/s in sequential write. In both cases, we are talking about an associated heatsink and a five-year warranty.
On the other hand, no mention is made of the controller used, probably the latest generation from Phison. In addition, no date or price has been advanced, Apacer having only spoken of a release before the end of the year.
