Apex Legends: We take stock of the new features of season 16 (deathmatch, remastered classes, etc.)

Despite the bad news from Respawn Entertainment, Apex Legends remains the center of attention. The FPS Battle Royale has also begun major changes with its last season in order to revitalize its formula while being more welcoming to newcomers.

Deathmatch is in place

Famous mode in many classic online FPSTeam Deathmatch is now available on Apex Legends during the festivities. This is a limited mode where two teams of 6 vs 6 compete in more closed arenas. There are three available at the moment: Trouble-fête, Habitat 4 and Graveyard City. After choosing your legend, you have several presets of gear. You can change it each time you respawn after a death.

To win, one of the two teams must reach a number of opponent kills before the opposing team. In addition, the studio has listened to recent feedback from the community and has therefore decided to reduce the number of rounds (from a best of 3 to a single round) while increasing the score required to win (50 instead of 30). Respawn also used the festivities to introduce a new energy-charged weapon: the Nemesis.

Remastered Legend Classes

Contrary to tradition, the studio is not going to deploy a new legend for this season 16. It prefers to take a break to fully deploy its redesign of the classes of each legend. From now on, each of them will have their own class that will allow them to perform unique actions that other classes obviously cannot perform. so here’s the 5 classes that have just been set up:

  • Assault
  • Acknowledgement
  • Skirmish
  • Control
  • Support

For example, certain classes like supports will be the only ones who can open unique chests. Respawn will also readjust all Legends this season, for example modifying their abilities to match these drastic changes.

More welcoming to new players

Apex Legends has now been around for almost 4 years and it can be difficult to get started against very experienced players. In order to make Battle Royale more accessible for newcomers, Respawn will be implementing improvements to the shooting range, adding special dummies as well as statistical tracking. In addition, new players will be able to play against bots in order to get their hands dirty. Finally, the blues will have access to a new orientation game system. This will allow you to play less stressful games against bots to get your bearings and learn the basic mechanics before attempting matchmaking sessions.

We don’t forget either the new Battle Pass and its string of unique cosmetics with a “Technocrat” skin for Crypto or a “Heart Harmonization” skin for Valkyrie. For the rest, we refer you to the video above.

Apex Legends is available PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via EA app and Steam.
