Apple, a discreet fan of Satoshi Nakamoto? The Bitcoin whitepaper is in your macOS

Apple: the worm has been in the fruit for 5 years – Apple would it be more crypto-friendly than it seems at first glance? THE white paper of the best known cryptocurrency, invented by the no less famous Satoshi Nakamotowas concealed at the heart of the machines macOS from the company to the apple. Would the ideals of Bitcoin have conquered the small metallic heart of the firm of Steve Jobs? Or is it just a joke from a prankster trainee?

The Bitcoin whitepaper in the bowels of the Apple machine

“I wasn’t looking for the Bitcoin whitepaper. I was just trying to fix my printer. »

It is in these terms that was ecstatic Andy Bayo, a technologist, flabbergasted by his unprecedented discovery. The Bitcoin whitepaper would literally be in every version of macOS since Mojave (10.14.0) in 2018 at Ventura, the current one. High Sierra (10.13) and earlier versions do not. Clearly, if you have a recent version of macOS, you have, prisoner of your data, the Bitcoin whitepaper. To check it, it’s very simple, just type in your command terminal:

/System/Library/ImageCapture/Devices/VirtualScanner.app/Contents/Resources/simpledoc.pdf

…and the document appears. This discovery is the result of the most total chance. While attempting to scan a document through his cordless scanner, Andy Baio saw a tool appear on his screen called “Virtual Scanner II”. By default, this tool shows a lambda photo. But changing the file type to ” document “THE whitepaper written in 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto appears.

An unprecedented discovery hitherto almost absent from the internet. Only a designer named Joshua Dickens noticed it before him. He had, at the time in 2020, shared his discovery on Twitter.

Web 3 ready to devour web 2 from the inside?

Andy Baio quickly verified that the whitepaper was also in his friends’ macOS. And indeed, it is found absolutely everywhere. The roots of web 3 would therefore have infiltrated deep inside web 2.

“I asked my friends who also used Macs if they could confirm [ma découverte]. And all without exception [ont retrouvé le même fichier]. »

Andy Bayo

Hard to guess the reasons that led Bitcoin’s precious founding text to incorporate all Apple brand products. Is this a directive, an oversight, a joke from an intern passionate about cryptos? Or simply a PDF document whose ideal format would have made it possible to test the functions of the machine during its development and which should never have been discovered? This last hypothesis would seem to be the one put forward by Baio.

Never mind the reasons that led the Bitcoin whitepaper to end up right in the heart of the Apple brand. One thing is certain: at a time when the hegemony of web 2 is threatened by a growing web 3, the symbolism is strong. While this world of total control of our data disappears, gradually eaten away by a technology that brings freedom, the discovery only highlights the obvious. In reality, the Bitcoin worm had been in the fruition for a long time.
