The Apple AirTag: function and use

The AirTag is a small, battery-powered device that can be attached to items such as keys, wallets or purses. If an item is lost, the owner can use the Find My app to locate and track it. The AirTag emits a signal that can be picked up by nearby iPhone, iPad, or Mac devices. The AirTag can also be attached to luggage, backpacks or other containers to track them while traveling. In addition, the AirTag can be used to track pets. By attaching an AirTag to the collar or harness, owners can quickly locate their pet if it goes missing. The AirTag is also helpful for tracking children. With an AirTag in a child’s backpack or jacket, parents can quickly find them if they get lost.

All in all, the AirTag is a versatile tool that you can use can detect objects or people. But of course the battery has to be replaced from time to time: You can find out how long the battery lasts and how the replacement works in another article.

This is how the AirTag is reset

There can be many reasons for resetting an AirTag: maybe you want to give your AirTag to someone else or you want to connect it to a different device. Whatever the reason, resetting is a fairly simple process that only requires a few steps:

  1. First open the “Find My” app on your iPhone and tap on the “Devices“.
  2. Then select the AirTag you want to reset and tap on that “i” symbol next to the device.
  3. Finally, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap “Remove AirTag“. This will erase all data from your AirTag so someone else can use it.

Resetting an AirTag does not delete the data associated with it from your iCloud account, only the data that on the AirTag itself are saved. So if you give your AirTag to someone else, you should delete any data from the iCloud account that you don’t want them to have access to.
