If the new iPhone and Apple Watch models took center stage during the latest keynote from the apple firm, other announcements were made on September 12. Among them, the company is equipping its cloud storage service with new formulas.

Whether it’s backing up data or sharing files, iCloud has become an essential part of Apple’s ecosystem. For proof, just take a look at macOS to see that many key folders on your computer are backed up to the cloud by default. In this context, it seems that the company’s current offers are no longer enough for everyone, since two new packages will soon appear.

Large storage capacities for high prices

Until now, iCloud+ offered 3 different plans including 50 GB, 200 GB and 2 TB of storage space. From September 18, Apple will add two new plans of 6 and 12 TB. According to the firm, these will be perfect “ for users with large photo and video libraries, or for those who use Family Sharing, and they will provide access to premium features » already available in the 2 TB package.

More storage space means higher monthly payments, at $29.99 and $59.99 respectively, although Apple has not announced annual plans to minimize costs. We also do not know the prices that will be offered as part of the Apple One subscription, which brings together several of the company’s paid services, including Apple TV+ and Apple Music.

For comparison, Google Drive does not yet offer storage solutions beyond 2 TB, and Dropbox stops at 3 TB for 19.99 euros per month. To see where iCloud+’s competition lies for such capabilities, we have to look to smaller companies. For example, Icedrive offers 5 TB of storage for 17.99 euros per month, while Mega gives us 16 TB for 29.99 euros per month. Apple has therefore just thrown a wrench into the pond, it remains to be seen whether the competition will follow.
