Apple has just unveiled its latest work in artificial intelligence with this new language model, which allows existing images to be modified by describing the changes with simple parts of sentences.

Apple is lagging behind on the subject of artificial intelligence. While Microsoft continues to integrate ChatGPT and OpenAI technologies into all of its software, and Google is multiplying announcements around its latest Gemini language model, the Californian manufacturer seems to be watching the train go by and has not yet made any sensational announcement. However, Apple’s teams would be on a war footing to offer their own tools and services assisted by artificial intelligence. The proof again today with this new project from the Cupertino laboratories.

An image editor that can be controlled by writing

MGIE (for MLLM-Guided Image Editing) is a language model specialized in image processing, and more precisely image modifications. The idea behind this project is to be able to apply changes to a still image without using editing software, but simply by explaining the modifications in writing.

So, it would be possible to type “ Increase the brightness of the image ” Or ” Change the color of the sky to red » so that the software understands the indication given, and makes the modifications directly, without any human intervention.

MGIE can apply general edits to an image, or go into more detail with an understanding of the elements that make it up. In the example given by Apple on GitHub, where the project was posted, we can for example see that the model understands what a Christmas tree is, identifies it on the image and deletes it after request in the box. dialogue.

Apple seems to want to accelerate on AI in 2024

The MGIE model goes further in the proposed additions and can enrich images with some context elements. In another example illustrated by the Apple teams, we can see the photo of a very traditional pizza. By asking the tool to make the pizza healthier, the artificial intelligence will add vegetables to this pizza.

MGIE can finally make simpler modifications, such as resizing, enlarging or zooming in the image, as well as rotating.

If you are interested in testing this new technology, Apple offers a demo version on the web and available at this address. It is possible in the future that some of its tools will appear in the brand’s operating systems, such as macOS or iOS, via the Photos application.

We also know that 2024 should be the year of artificial intelligence for Apple, with iOS 18 announced as a historic update. Siri or the Messages application could receive improvements linked to AI and would allow Apple to partly catch up with its competitors.

The best AI to generate your content

The emergence of artificial intelligence as a mainstream tool has opened up numerous possibilities for all content producers. Text, image, sound… This new fashionable technology can now provide assistance in many areas, and facilitate work in the most difficult stages of creation. And with an ever-increasing offering, it is important to distinguish which tools provide real added value. So you don’t waste hours trying everything the Google results pages offer!
