A feature of iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will return to the iPhone 14 Pro. However, the latter will be subject to the same limits as their predecessors…

Yesterday was a day full of announcements from Apple. The brand has finally lifted the veil on its iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro and took the opportunity to reveal many details about them, including the ProRes video format.

iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max: 128 GB models still limited to Full HD

If you haven’t heard of ProRes before now, it’s a video recording format only for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. This one, cut for professionals, makes it possible to obtain the best possible rendering in terms of video. However, all models are not housed in the same boat on the Apple side. Indeed, a particularity exists according to the storage variants and this will unfortunately be maintained with the new iPhones.

Until now, if the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max were both ProRes compatible, only the versions with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB of storage could benefit from it in the best conditions, namely in 4K. Indeed, the 128 GB models were restricted to a definition of 1080p when this video capture format was activated. Unfortunately, if we could hope that would change with the coming of the iPhone 14s, Apple has confirmed that the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will be subject to the same conditions.

Why this limit, you will tell us? Well probably because of the size of the files. As you can imagine, this codec being particularly greedy, the files can become very large in no time (one minute corresponds approximately to 1.7 GB in HD and 6 GB in 4K). If you plan to buy an iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max and video is one of your first purchase criteria, you have now been warned…

iPhone 13 Pro & iPhone 13 Pro Max test: reconcile autonomy and 120 Hz screen? Apple’s successful bet

Last year, Apple made the mistake of segmenting its range too much. Indeed, if you wanted the best cameras, you had to go for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, whose format is far from suitable for everyone. Also it is with some relief that we discovered last week that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max shared almost all of their technical data sheet.
