Apple has signed an agreement with the famous Shutterstock image bank. The Cupertino company can thus use its files to power its artificial intelligence systems.
If we very often hear about ChatGPT or even Gemini, other preeminent tech players are also in the race, like, obviously, Apple. It must be said that the Cupertino company has very significant resources at its disposal to catch up. This allows it to sign extremely interesting partnerships, such as the one that links it to Shutterstock.
Apple and Shutterstock, hand in hand
Apple has its own AI projects, including the creation of an AI capable of modifying images using simple sentences. A project in which the American company was surely helped by its collaboration with the Shutterstock image bank.
According to information obtained by Reutersthis partnership, similar to those signed by Meta, Amazon or Google, was concluded in the first months of 2023. These are basically agreements representing an amount ranging from 25 to 50 million dollars for each contract, agreements which were later extended according to Shutterstock CFO Jarrod Yahes.
Apple prepares for 2024
Thanks to this association, Apple can use hundreds of millions of files consisting not only of images, but also of music and videos, with the idea of training artificial intelligence.
And it won’t be too much for Apple, which currently appears to be trailing the rest of the GAFAMs. The company founded by Steve Jobs should therefore integrate AI into its next iPhone 16, but an AI produced by… Google. Because it is indeed Gemini which could make its entry into the next version of the famous smartphone with the bitten apple, with negotiations currently underway to make Gemini available on iOS 18.
In the longer term, the partnership could help bring image-generative AI from Apple into the iOS ecosystem. It could also improve the iPhone’s image recognition capability, particularly in finding and organizing a user’s personal photos. Only positive?
