The launch of the Reality Pro is fast approaching after being greatly delayed. But the burden is increasingly heavy for the American manufacturer.
What we know about Apple’s mixed reality headset
Apple has been working on its AR/VR headset project for many years now. While he saw his design start about seven years ago, everything now seems to indicate that the device will be launched next fall, at the same time as the new iPhones. The one now called “Reality Pro” could well be a compendium of very advanced technologies (4K lenses, advanced eye and hand tracking, etc.), the price of which should also be around (or even exceed) 3,000 euros. .
A few days ago, first images of the headphones from Apple began to appear on the Web. We were then able to discover the shape of the Reality Pro, leaving it easy to imagine that it could be equipped with several screens. Mass production of Apple’s RM headset is expected to begin between late Q2 and early Q3 2023. According to current rumors, around 800,000 are expected to be produced for launch.
Despite the many hardware and software difficulties encountered with the Reality Pro (and it’s not over yet), the apple brand would have a second mixed reality headset in the boxes. This one, on the other hand, would be intended for a wider audience and would therefore be much more affordable than the first in terms of price. Isn’t Apple going a bit too fast? For now, nothing is less certain.
Reality Pro: a difficult context and a hasty exit?
As we mentioned earlier, Apple’s AR/VR headset has been in the works for several years. The Californian company, in addition to having been subjected to software and hardware constraints throughout the development, must face many dissonances internally. While employees preferred to delay the launch of Reality Pro, managers would like to maintain its release at the end of 2023. According to a former engineer at the box, “ the launch would have been delayed every year for the last few years”.
According to these statements relayed by our colleagues from Wccftech, it is clear that the commercialization of Apple’s headphones still remains uncertain for this year (although it seems more concrete than the previous times). Added to this is the pressure suffered by Tim Cook from the board of directors and the possibility of wanting to get ahead of the competition at all costs, like Samsung, which is also preparing its entry into mixed reality.
It is therefore in this context that Apple will set foot in the wonderful worlds of virtual and augmented reality. With its many promises and years of expectation from its customers, the mixed reality headset from Apple is expected at the turn. The firm having, in most cases, successfully launched its new devices, the pressure is all the stronger this time.
