A designer imagined what the concept of Dynamic Island could look like if it were transposed on Mac. And the least we can say is that it makes you want to adopt it!

While we are impatiently waiting to discover what Apple has in store for us with its mixed reality headset, let’s discover today this new concept of dynamic dock for macOS.

When the dynamic island of Apple gives ideas to some…

Last year, Apple took advantage of the launch of its iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max to introduce a brand new feature called Dynamic Island. Moreover, this year, all iPhone 15 models should logically benefit from it. Practical and clever, the latter transforms the little pill at the top of the phone into a real interactive bar. In addition to hiding the front camera, it also allows you to display alerts or control the music being played.

Now, what would you say if such a feature were to land on mac? No, calm your enthusiasm, unfortunately it’s not planned yet… On the other hand, an engineer, who obviously has ideas in mind, has rolled up his sleeves to develop what could easily be called the Dynamic Dock.

After the Dynamic Island, the Dynamic Dock?

On Twitter, a certain Janum Trivedi has developed a feature that will, we hope, give ideas to Apple (and surely inspire mac users). To put it simply, the engineer imagined what the Dock would look like if it were dynamic. For those unfamiliar with macOS, this is the area at the bottom of the screen that provides quick access to the apps and features you use most.

By placing the mouse pointer over application icons, they suddenly become dynamic. They then reveal various information relating to their uses. For example, when hovering over the Messages app, unread text messages are automatically displayed. The same with Apple Music which displays here the track currently playing as well as the various control buttons. For its part, Safari allows you to follow the progress of a download at a glance… You will probably have noticed that in order to be able to display this dynamic information, the entire Dock expands.

After seeing such a feature in action, let’s face it, it’s hard not to hope that Apple will develop something similar for its Macs in the future. Without necessarily revolutionizing the user experience, this would bring more fluidity and interactivity to the macOS ecosystem.
