WWDC 2022 may be a conference reserved primarily for developers and software news, but Apple sometimes adds a few hardware announcements to the program for its inaugural keynote.
The MacBook Air could be one of the stars of WWDC 2022
According to Mark Gurman, the journalist of Bloomberg very aware of the manufacturer’s news, Apple could take advantage of its event, broadcast on Monday June 6 from 7 p.m. French time, to slip two new Macs between the announcements of the next iOS and macOS.
The first model could be a MacBook Air that has been rumored for many months already. The device could sport a new design, with thinner screen borders but also many colors like the iMac 2021 which has the originality of being available in half a dozen colors.
We can also think that this probable future MacBook Air has a new Apple M2 SoC. This announcement at WWDC would then make sense, since it would have been almost two years to the day, at this same conference, that the manufacturer announced its transition from Intel processors to its own chips.
The Mac Pro as “One more thing”?
Mark Gurman evokes a second Mac but does not advance to a prognosis. If we ventured into a few predictions, we could evoke an upcoming Mac Pro. Apple’s computer for professionals has not been reviewed for almost three years, except for the few updates of components for use.
During the presentation of the Mac Studio last March, John Ternus, the vice-president in charge of the Mac branch, mentioned the Mac Pro by name, indicating that the device was the last device not to have made its transition to the Apple Silicon chips and that the brand would soon communicate on this subject.
Tim Cook having declared in June 2020 that the abandonment of Intel processors would last two years and since WWDC is primarily aimed at a professional audience, he is the most serious candidate on the list.
If, on the contrary, the development of the machine requires a little more time, Apple could also present a 13-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an M2 processor and brought up to date or a 32-inch iMac Pro, which would still be in the manufacturer’s plans despite the release of the Mac Studio.
