An abomination to some, a perfect rescue to others, Boot Camp functionality updates on Mac Intel.

The announcement of the transition to Silicon processors by Apple has forced everyone to review their copy. Developers in mind, but so are users, at least initially. Those who have rushed to a Mac equipped with one of these chips have not always been entitled to all their favorite software from day one. Some apps are still not even compatible. This is also the case for features created by Apple, such as the Boot Camp utility.

Better connectivity for Intel Macs

Boot Camp is a native utility on all Macs. It allows you to install a Windows partition on an Apple computer. Thus, each time the machine is started, the user is free to choose between macOS and Microsoft’s OS. The advantage of this feature is to be able to launch software exclusively available on PC, such as games or certain professional applications. And contrary to a virtualization, to start its machine under another OS makes it possible to benefit from the entirety of the resource of the computer.

However, since the release of the M1 Macs, the feature no longer launched. Indeed, the version of Windows for ARM chips is only available to Windows Insider Preview users, a kind of open beta. Boot Camp continued to update, with the addition of drivers for the Studio Display, and today a new version was released. The new features relate mainly to connectivity: addition of WPA3 for Wi-Fi and better stability of Bluetooth. Small flat, these improvements are published for Mac Intel. Still no Boot Camp on the horizon for Apple Silicon chips.

Alternatives exist, including virtualization. This method allows you to create an instance of another OS on your main system. You can launch a virtual Windows like an application from your Mac. To do this, Parallels Desktop remains the leader, especially thanks to its latest update which allows you to install Windows 11 in one click!
