To revive iPad sales, Apple will carry out a major spring cleaning in its range.
Tuesday May 7, 2024, Apple will hold the event Let Loose, during which the new iPad Pro and iPad Air will be presented. This will be the first big step in Apple’s efforts to clean up its tablet lineup and make it more readable.
A new strategy for the iPad
In the newsletter Power On by Mark Gurman, published by Bloomberg, we learn in fact that the American firm wants its iPad offering to become closer to what is already achieved with Macs. Like the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, the iPad Pro and iPad Air 2024 will be available in two screen sizes (11 inches and 12.9 inches), a first for the iPad Air.
Then, Apple wants to create a real performance gap between these two models, equipping the iPad Air with an M2 chip, while the iPad Pro will feature a latest generation M4 chip. The iPad Air was often presented as the ideal compromise between performance and price and will remain a very interesting product, but the iPad Pro, whose communication will revolve around AI, will be perceived as a much more high-end device.
In 2025, Apple will continue to modernize its range by removing the ninth generation iPad from its catalog and marketing a new iPad mini with a more powerful SoC.
The iPad ever closer to the MacBook
The most ambitious iPads will increasingly look like real laptops, and this will be even more true with the upcoming release of the new aluminum Magic Keyboard. Also planned for the conference Let Loose, it will give iPads a real laptop aesthetic. New software features should be announced to take even better advantage of the keyboard.
During its latest financial results, Apple reported a decline in iPad sales, which did not necessarily surprise analysts as the product has stagnated recently. The aim is to give a boost to the range to revive consumer interest.
