Apple will unveil iOS 18 and its artificial intelligence strategy on June 10, 2024


WWDC, Apple’s traditional developer event, will take place from June 10 to 14. The brand should unveil several updates for its operating systems, in addition to new features linked to artificial intelligence.

“Later this year, I look forward to sharing with you the ways we will innovate in generative AI, another technology we believe can redefine the future” declared Tim Cook on February 29, in front of Apple shareholders.

“Later this year”, it will be June 10, 2024. Apple has just formalized the dates of its next WWDC, which will use the hybrid format inaugurated two years ago. A physical event is planned at Apple Park in Cupertino on June 10, then virtual sessions will take over for developers from around the world.

iOS 18, visionOS 2 and a Super Siri on the program

WWDC is the software conference, even if certain products are sometimes announced during the event (the HomePod, the Mac Pro, the MacBook Air M2 or the Apple Vision Pro, in particular). In 2024, we are mainly expecting announcements on software.

Logically, Apple should reveal during its keynote on June 10:

  • iOS 18, the big iPhone update with a refreshed design and AI.
  • iPadOS 18, its tablet equivalent.
  • macOS 15, for computers.
  • watchOS 11, after watchOS 10 with a brand new design.
  • tvOS 18, with new features for Apple TV.
  • new features for AirPods and HomePods (we’re talking about a hearing aid mode).
  • visionOS 2, the first major update of the Apple Vision Pro, which will undoubtedly be one of the stars of the event.

All of these updates should have one thing in common: generative artificial intelligence. Will Siri become as chatty as ChatGPT? Will Apple Photos allow you to generate content and delete people? Will it be possible to summarize a message, note or recording? Apple, like all tech brands, knows that it is eagerly awaited. Since the end of March, a rumor about an alliance with Google Gemini has been circulating.

A month before Apple, Google will also organize its major developer conference, also on the theme of AI. A revolution is currently taking place in the tech sector, no major tech player can afford to miss it. Apple knows this very well: the delay on OpenAI and ChatGPT must disappear on June 10.
