Apple’s iPhone 14 and 14 Plus don’t thrill crowds, Pro and Pro Max models yes

The all-new iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, unveiled on September 7, have been available for pre-order for a few days now. And like every year, analysts and other digital observers scrutinize the sales figures for the latest Apple mobiles very closely. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max seem more convincing in this final period of 2022.

A 14 Plus that sells less than the iPhone 13 Mini

According to the always very well informed Ming-Chi Kuo, the Pro models would account for 55% of the iPhone 14 catalog on the first days of pre-orders. According to the specialist, they could continue to be sold by whole pallets until November at least, proof that Apple “still has many loyal and loyal customers despite the deteriorating economy”. In his blog post, Ming-Chi Kuo even mentions the possibility that Apple will increase production of the Pro models in the coming weeks.

The success of ultra-high-end phones mathematically overshadows the standard iPhone 14 models. Thus, the 14 and 14 Plus would show poor results in this pre-order phase. “As things stand, iPhone 14 and 14 Plus pre-order results are worse than iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 13 Mini”, explains the analyst. A potential snub for Apple, which had just sacrificed its poorly selling Mini model in favor of a Plus model supposed to convince the general public. However, pre-orders for the iPhone 14 Plus are “significantly lower than expected”according to the specialist who believes that “Apple’s product segmentation strategy for standard models failed this year”.

First feedback to qualify

The next few weeks could therefore be an opportunity for the Cupertino brand to readjust its production volumes in favor of the Pro models. Bad news for vendors working on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. Either way, Ming-Chi Kuo says these won’t be hard to find on retailer shelves once the phones are officially available, while Pro models might be rarer.

From a purely technical point of view, it is hardly surprising that the Pro models attract more attention from those in a hurry. The first days of pre-orders attract a very tech-savvy public who want to get their hands on the latest Apple products as quickly as possible. And at the end of 2022, the bulk of the innovations are concentrated on the Pro versions, while the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus turn out to be quite similar to the iPhone 13 range from last year.
