While AirPods Max took the market by storm when they released in late 2020, fans are eagerly awaiting news of the next iteration. We may already know when Apple’s second headset will arrive.

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, AirPods Max 2 are expected to debut in late 2024, but the changes might not be as revolutionary as some hoped. In its latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman announces that only a few modest improvements can be expected.

One of the main novelties should be the introduction of new color options, which will allow users to have more choices to suit their personal style. However, oWe can also expect some changes in technical specifications.

What do we know about the upcoming AirPods Max 2 headphones?

Another notable change is switching from Lightning port to USB-C for charging. This change is not only driven by the desire to comply with EU regulations, but also to create a consistent charging standard across Apple’s entire product line, including the AirPods family.

However, for those who were hoping for more advanced features, like the H2 chip found in the AirPods Pro, you may well be disappointed. Functions such as adaptive audio, “Conversation Awareness” or even personalized volume, which we already find in the cheaper AirPods Pro 2, should not be integrated into AirPods Max 2, again according to Mark Gurman.

Fortunately, Don’t expect a release of Apple headsets before the end of next year. It is therefore always possible that Apple decides to add these features at the last minute, to at least align the capabilities of its headset with those of its headphones.

While waiting to learn more, all eyes are currently on tonight’s conference, called “Scary Fast”. It should be an opportunity for the American giant to launch new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, as well as a new 24-inch iMac with an M3 processor. Apple could even launch a new iPad mini, but we will have to wait for the Keynote to find out more.
