In the morning after getting up fresh look – who doesn’t want that? A bit of blush on the face and cheeks is probably the biggest contributor to make-up. And on the right places of the cheekbones blush can even our whole face lift! Here you can find out what you have to consider when buying blush and which mistakes you should not make when applying it to your face.
How to apply blush correctly: step-by-step instructions
Applying blush correctly is quick and easy with these instructions:
- Begins with little product: So put the brush only lightly in the blush and tap off the excess.
- In dabbing movements do you now touch your cheeks with the rouge. Your brush is so gentle on your skin that you barely touch it. First, concentrate the blush in one spot.

The brush
The right brush plays a much bigger role in applying blush than you might think. If it is tied too tightly, the blush will stain. If the brush is too big, you won’t be able to apply the blush precisely and you’ll spread the blush in unwanted places.
So choose one medium-sized, beveled brushwith long, loosely bound bristles. If you paint brush on your hand, you should hardly feel any resistance. This applies the rouge particularly gently and evenly to the cheekbones.
The blush
There are countless types of blush on the market. Different blush formulations are suitable for different skin types and occasions:
- Matte blush: Matte blush flatters oily skin types and people with very impure complexions. Even if you plan to wear the makeup for a very long time matte blush your friend. Since your skin naturally produces oil, your face will become more or less shiny throughout the day. If you want to wear highlighter in addition to the rouge, you should also use matte rouge.

- Creamy blush: Creamy blush can be found in pen shape, as a liquid texture or as a cream in a little pot. Also here there is mat and luminous formulations of blush. In general, creamy products always look more natural on the skin because they can be applied more evenly to the face and blended in and do not – like some powders – lie on the complexion. Creamy blushes should be applied with your fingertips or a beauty sponge and blended out before using any type of powder on your face – otherwise the complexion will become blotchy.
Tip for long-lasting blush: If you have a very long day and want to make sure the blush lasts all day, apply creamy blush first and then powder blush again. This combo lasts all day (and all night)!
Usually one strong pigmentation always desirable. With rouge, however, this is enjoy with caution – better apply subtle make-up to your cheekbones! It is therefore better to choose a blush with medium pigmentation so that you can adjust the intensity as needed when applying.
The color
There is a tendency for some shades to suit certain skin tones better. If you tan quickly, so one golden-yellow undertone have, you will blush orange nuances, such as peach-colored blush, look particularly good. If you have one lighter skin tone you should too lighter colors, such as a delicate pink. Apply blush for every face shape
Blush shapes your face. Unlike the contour, you don’t push anything into the background, but rather emphasize your cheekbones so that they standing out. With rouge you can “redetermine” your face shape: place the blush on it deep on the cheekbones, pulls your face shape downward. But if you put the blush in just the right place, you create the illusion of higher cheekbones – so you put one reverse contour.
Again and again one reads that one should apply the rouge to the apple cheeks. However, this makes the face appear rounder and has no lifting effect. While an oval face and a round face are different, there is one place where the blush always looks beautiful: let’s say something like that two to three fingers free between nose and cheekbones and apply the blush there.
Creamy blush is applied after foundation and before each powder. You should only apply powdery blush after you have fixed your face with a thin layer of powder – otherwise the blush will stain.
