Appointments still available – over 3000 five to eleven year olds in Upper Austria have already been vaccinated

In Upper Austria, the first child vaccination campaign for five to eleven year olds started this weekend since the EU Medicines Agency EMA and the National Vaccination Committee gave the green light on Thursday for the use of the corona vaccine from BioNTech / Pfizer for this age group. Before that, children in Upper Austria were vaccinated as part of “off-label use”. According to the crisis team, a total of 3095 children between the ages of five and eleven were vaccinated up to and including Friday.

Of the around 2,000 vaccination appointments available for five to eleven year olds this weekend, 1839 appointments have been booked so far, the state’s crisis team announced. Until Saturday, December 11th, as of Saturday lunchtime 1878, appointments for child vaccinations were free. More appointments will be added next week. Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) and health officer LH deputy Christine Haberlander (ÖVP) emphasized on Saturday evening that vaccination is the most effective protection against a severe course of the disease, even for children. The vaccination offer for children in Upper Austria will be further expanded. Starting next week, children’s vaccination lanes will be set up on special days on existing vaccination lanes. There is enough time for advice and for answering questions from parents and children. For most appointments, advance notice is required. General practitioners and paediatricians in private practice would also offer the corona vaccination for children aged five to eleven in Upper Austria.
