Telekom owns the sole broadcasting rights for EM 2024. Nevertheless, some games will also be shown on ARD and ZDF.

For a long time it was unclear whether free TV viewers would be able to enjoy games of the European Football Championship in Germany in 2024. Now the fans can obviously breathe a sigh of relief, because Telekom, as the rights holder, has agreed on a sub-license with ARD and ZDF.

A total of 34 of the 51 games of the home European Championship will be shown live on the two public broadcasters – including all the German team's matches, the opening game, the semi-finals and the final. The remaining 17 games are shown by the private broadcaster RTL, which means that all the games in the tournament are also broadcast on free TV. Telekom, which secured the exclusive TV rights to EM 2024 in 2019, shows all the matches in the competition on MagentaTV.

Jogi Löw's last games are also part of the deal

The deal between Telekom, ARD and ZDF also means that the telecommunications company in return will be allowed to show all games of the upcoming EM 2021 – and thus the last games of national coach Joachim Löw (61) – and the 2022 World Cup. Ten European Championship games this year and 16 World Cup games next year will even be shown exclusively on MagentaTV. The games of the German team are not included. As usual, they will also be broadcast under public law.

For the roughly four million Telekom customers who pay for MagentaTV, the tournament broadcasts are included in the price. All other football fans can buy a monthly terminable account for ten euros.
