Effective immediately, the new cost of subscription to Deezer has, unsurprisingly, once again been revised upwards. To justify this decision, the French service cites in particular the “ value of music streaming “.

In 2022, almost all music streaming services have gone from 9.99 euro packages to 10.99 euros per month. Today, Deezer is opening the next door by increasing its subscription to 11.99 euros per month. Its family plan also goes from 17.99 to 19.99 euros per month. However, considering different factors, this new price increase is not that surprising.

A frank justification from Deezer

To explain this new increase, Deezer declares that it has taken this decision to “ recognize the value of music streaming, and ensure continuous improvement of product and fan experiences “. An explanation which at least has the merit of being honest. We can notably see it as a way to finance its recent new artist remuneration policy, or its fight against AI-generated content. But that’s not all.

Deezer is one of the rare music streaming services to offer HI-FI quality in its basic package, at no extra cost. This had to be paid for one day, especially when we see that Spotify risks charging a lot for this functionality. It now remains to be seen whether this increase will not scare away subscribers or, worse, encourage Apple Music, Spotify and other YouTube Music to also apply a new increase. In the SVoD industry, when Netflix started raising its prices and offering ad-supported plans, almost all of the competition followed suit.

An increase that arrives very quickly for subscribers

This Deezer price increase currently concerns users in France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. There is no doubt that the rest of the world will soon follow.

People already subscribed to the Premium or Family offer will see the new cost effectively reflected in their bank account with the next payment after October 24. As the offer is non-binding, it is possible to unsubscribe free of charge at any time.

Deezer review (Test 2023): catalog, prices, quality… Can the French music streaming platform compete with the behemoths?

Now that all of its competitors (YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) have adopted the same price of 10.99 euros per month for their main subscription, Deezer is no longer the most expensive music streaming service on the market. Thus, cost is no longer really a decision criterion today before subscribing. So let’s see in this review what exactly the Frenchman offers for this price.

Deezer

  • Quality, original and ergonomic interface
  • A very rich and varied catalog
  • Premium sound quality and integrated Hi-Fi…

Thanks to a very full catalog (and particularly pleasant for lovers of French-speaking songs), an easy-to-use interface that is very pleasing to the eye, a simple and complete paid offer and lossless FLAC sound quality, Deezer stands out as one of the most serious services on the audio streaming market today. At least in its paid version (now slightly more expensive than the competition), because the free version will require all the calm of a Tibetan monk to be supported.
