What is this Google smartphone?
The Pixel 6a is the mid-range version of Google’s Pixel smartphones. Its design does not differ much from that of its elders, including the
Pixel 6. It has a 6.1-inch Full HD + OLED panel that offers somewhat weak brightness settings. You will have to dig into the settings to get the best from the screen. The refresh rate is only 60 Hz, but Google’s Tensor chip, also present in the Pixel 6, offers good fluidity and everything runs perfectly on Android 13. Too bad its 6 GB of RAM and its screen of 60 Hz limits it on certain applications.
In terms of ergonomics, the Pixel 6a is more pleasant to handle than its big brother. Despite its width, it fits well in the hand and its weight of less than 180 g is an asset. The Google smartphone is pleasant to handle, its autonomy is correct and it guarantees you a good day of battery in one charge.
The Pixel 6a at this price, is it a bargain?
At this price, it’s even an excellent deal. The strength of the Pixel 6a is its incredible photo quality. Its two 12.2 Mpix (f/1.7 aperture) and 12 Mpix (ultra wide-angle and f/2.2 aperture) sensors are remarkable. Although they offer less sharpness than the Pixel 6’s sensors, Google’s software algorithms more than make up for it. The various tweaks and edits possible on photos even after shooting are awesome and give the Pixel 6a the best camera in its price range.
Under 400 euros, the Google Pixel 6a offers a well-balanced formula between good ergonomics, a nice OLED screen and convincing performance. In the same range, the Google smartphone offers a better proposition than the iPhone SE or the Nothing Phone(1).
