BUENOS AIRES, December 17 (Reuters) – Villa, cars, cigars, t-shirts …: Goods and items that belonged to former football star Diego Maradona, who died on November 25, 2020, will be auctioned on Sunday in Argentina in a global online sale.

The event is organized by the “Pibe de Oro” family in order to raise funds while the succession of the Argentine international footballer is settled.

“The five children (recognized from Maradona-NDLR), through their lawyers, gave their agreement and it was possible to carry out this event in order to raise funds. It is only a question of paying the costs”, said Adrian Mercado, head of the auction house that bears his name.

The online auctions will take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. local time (0800 GMT).

The 87 lots include a 1980s house in the Villa Devoto neighborhood of Buenos Aires and luxury cars, including a BMW he had driven on a soccer field. Hats, football boots and t-shirts worn by the legend, photos, an autographed guitar and a box of cigars are also among the items on offer.

“The big Diego fans, who I think will be the ones who participate, can take something home to remember,” added the auctioneer who expects a high turnout.

“There are many, many things that have nostalgic value.”
