Taken aback by the amount the baker has just told her, Daniela Oliveira glances at the prices written in chalk in the window. “Ah yes, indeed…”, let go of this mother of a family by opening her purse. In this bakery in the Chacarita district of Buenos Aires, a kilo of bread currently costs 320 pesos (2.60 euros at the official exchange rate), 20% more than in February. “When I started working here two years ago, we updated prices twice a year, says Cecilia Villafane behind her counter. Now it’s every two months!” And Daniela ironically: “With force, we end up being champions in mental calculation.”
