Armored Core VI will not be a Souls-like, first details on From Software’s new game

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon was one of the nice surprises of these last Game Awards. Even if some leaks had confirmed its existence to us before that, we had somewhat forgotten it following the effervescence caused by Elden Ring, so much so that his announcement took everyone by surprise. For the moment, we have to make do with a CGI trailer for this new episode, but Hidetaka Miyazaki and Masaru Yamamurawho is the former lead designer of sekirogave themselves up to some confidences at IGN which allow us to learn a little more about the game.

A usual structure for the series

First of all, don’t expect Miyazaki to be fully invested in the project. He declares to entrust the reins to Masaru Yamamura and is delighted to play this episode as a fan of the series, rather than being the creator.

Don’t expect an open world Elden Ring for this album, we remain on a construction in missions. This Amored Core VI will therefore take up the basics of the old episodes by letting us customize our mecha with great freedom, which will modify the gameplay and the skills of our giant robot.

It will always be a third-person game, which this time will be more focused on the solo (a Versus mode will be there)with great boss fights that are described as the true highlights of the game.

The studio does not mix genres

Does this mean that the game will adopt the Souls-like style? Not at all according to Yamamura: “ No, we didn’t want to try and steer the game towards Soulsborne-like gameplay. Let me be very clear about this. »

Obviously, the studio will take advantage of the experiences acquired over the years on the various projects. Yamamura explains that we can find the spirit sekiro in having gameplay that promotes aggression, since the more we attack an enemy, the more chances we have of breaking his posture and inflicting a critical hit. A way of emphasizing that while the game will obviously base its combat on firearms, melee weapons will be more present than ever.

But the essence of the series will not be transformed to stick to the studio’s most popular games. Which is undoubtedly good news for the fans of the first hour, who could have worried about this. And that neophytes be reassured, you won’t need to play the previous ones Armored Core to play this one.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series in 2023.
