Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger brought a lot of laughs together at this year’s Oscars.

The two Hollywood legends Arnold Schwarzenegger (76) and Danny DeVito (79) had the laughs on their side at the 96th Academy Awards. Together they took the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on the evening of March 10th, and impressed purely visually with their size contrast. But anyone who thought of the duo as a reunion of the cast of the legendary comedy “Twins” was quickly proven wrong. Because DeVito explained, “Arnold and I are presenting together for a very obvious reason,” to which Schwarzenegger added, “We both tried to kill Batman.”

“You have nerve showing your face here!”

In fact, both screen icons have played adversaries of the Dark Knight in the past. DeVito played the penguin in Tim Burton’s (65) “Batman Returns” from 1992, while “Arnie” became Mr. Freeze for “Batman & Robin” in 1997.

“How did Batman defeat you?” DeVito asked Schwarzenegger in the number, which was accompanied by much laughter from the audience, who replied: “He used my only weakness against me… love.”

“Oh. He threw me out the window. Really,” DeVito retorted, and his presenting partner for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars then jokingly cursed Gotham’s protector with the words: “Batman, the son of a bitch.”

The former Batman actor Michael Keaton (72) was shown by the Oscar director. He portrayed the character in Batman Returns. “He’s here. There he is!” DeVito blurted out, and to the thunderous applause of the audience, Schwarzenegger threatened: “You have the courage to show your face here,” whereupon Keaton also joined the number, and his gestured at both supposed opponents to take on him.

The Oscar for “Best Visual Effects” went to the Japanese entry “Godzilla Minus One”, but DeVito and Schwarzenegger’s performance was clearly one of the comedic highlights of the evening.
