Around the world at the age of 80: At Easter the seniors can be seen in a special edition

In the travel documentary "Around the world with 80 years", six seniors experience the journey of a lifetime and discover foreign countries and cultures together. In the special edition "Around the world with 80 years – now at home!", Which ZDF shows on Easter Sunday (April 12) at 6:15 p.m., moderator and travel companion Steven Gätjen (47) wants to know how the former participants felt in the current coronavirus situation.

For this purpose, he contacts Gisela (81), Ernst (81), Erika (84) and Norbert (83) via video chat, who went on the journey of a lifetime in 2018 and 2019. Due to the current situation, the elderly are tied to their home and have to live in isolation as much as possible. In conversation with Gätjen, they tell what their life looks like without family visits, sporting activities and travel. "I am really happy to finally see my seniors again, even if the current situation is only on the screen," explains Gätjen in a statement. "Even then I was able to cut off a large slice of optimism through her life-hungry attitude."

In "Around the world with 80 years", the moderator accompanies six seniors on their journey to distant countries. So far, two seasons of travel documentary have been shown. The first season of the show had attracted a lot of attention in 2018 due to the surprising death of a candidate. At that time it was considered to call off the broadcast. But the other participants wanted to continue the journey – also in thoughts of the late Lothar. Season two was on ZDF in summer 2019. A third season was announced in October 2019.
